First week with my Wii

Well after a hide and seek game tracking down a Wii that took several weeks I finally managed to pick one up, and all I can say is the Wii is awesome.

To be honest I have never been a console gamer always preferred PC gaming (with trusty wasd for FPS) but the Nintendo Wii really grabbed my attention right from when I first heard about it (back in the day of the revolution). The fact that console gaming was no-longer just a case of button pressing combos to effectively play a game. No the Wii was something far better, you actually make real-life movements with the revolutionary new controller. That was what really dragged me to it, playing tennis and actually swinging the Wii remote as if it is a tennis racket, or taking a swing like you would in a golf game. The Wii has revolutionised the way we play games making gaming far more realistic and bringing the none-gaming community together with gamers.

More after the jump…

However there is more to the Wii than just playing games, the Wii is built up around channels and each channel lets you do something different, for instance there is the weather channel allowing you to get the latest weather updates live to your Wii or from the news channel you can obtain the latest headlining news. All by simply connecting the Wii the big wide web.
The Mii channel is quite a fun channel which allows you to create a character of yourself that you can use in some of the Wii games (Wii Sports, Wii Play) you can play as one of the many characters you create and even against them in some games like baseball. A few of the Mii’s that I made can be found here.

As I said earlier the real thing that made the Wii stand out to me was of course the controllers and controlling a game in a way in which we never have before, and they certainly do not disappoint, I found the controllers to be very responsive and accurate right down to the point that in Wii sports tennis if to play a shot and keep on the field and you have to backhand you do have to backhand the controller otherwise you will generally hit the ball off the court or miss the ball entirely.
In boxing (which is quite a good game once you get use to it) if you want to hit your opponent with you left glove you swing the nunchuck forward and the left glove on screen will take the shot, like wise to use the right glove you move the Wii remote forwards. (Assuming you are right handed)
Or whilst playing a game of ten pin bowling if you twist the remote sideways whilst bowling you will add spin to the ball.
It is these kind of things that the developers have taken into account that really make the Wii something unique and original.

Wii play is not the best of the current Wii games but it does showoff the capabilities of the Wii remote and train you to use it better. Whilst playing Billiards once you have selected where you would like to take the shot on the cue ball you have to move the Wii remote back then push it forwards to make the shot, all whilst keeping your hand level and not moving around the vertical plain. Demonstrating the fact that the Wii remote knows where it is in relative to the sensor bar.
A game that shows us what to expect once racing car games come is (Ive forgotten the name) basically its a game where your Mii races against the clock and another Mii to go through a course and hit as many scarecrows as possible, whilst riding on top of a cow. The way you orientate the Wii remote length ways towards you and ‘steer’ your cow like you would when turning a car wheel is fantastic, to accelerate you twist the controller downwards and to decelerate you twist the remote downwards but this time towards you.

Overall I think the Nintendo Wii is a fantastic console that is certainly worth getting and I am looking forward to getting new Wii games to use the Wii remote in ways that have never been done before to control games.(WarioWare)
If you ever were interested in getting a Wii I would recommend that you do as you wont be disappointed.
