Wii To Get A QWERTY Keyboard

Wednesday, April 25th, 2007

Yes you will be able to find me on your Nintendo Wii soon (besides the virtual on screen keyboard). According to a Gamer Informer article, Nintendo have plans to release a keyboard for the Nintendo Wii. Which will be very useful for web browsing, along with messaging other Wii’s. Do many people do that though?

I am all for a Wii keyboard as it will increase the speed at which I can do things on the Wii net browser. Although most things are still better to be done on a PC.

Review: Final Version Of Wii Opera Browser

Friday, April 13th, 2007

menuscreen.jpg

With the release of the final version of the Opera browser yesterday, I have to say that I am rather impressed (writing this on it now though I wont do the whole post to hard to type lol)

Sure I never really used the beta of it, so it is all new to me, however, I think that the final version of the Wii browser is fantastic it’s great to be able to browse the internet pointing with the Wii remote whilst laying down or just sitting back. Once you have zoomed in to a comfortable zoom level the text is very clear and easy to read.

Start Menu

The main start page has a very nice clean interface as you can see from the pictures, if you are stuck with the controls that are used with the Opera browser simply click the Wii remote diagram and all the controls will be revealed to you.

It is pretty limited in what things you can change within the Opera Browser, for instance you cannot turn pictures on or off, you can adjust the zoom settings from automatic to manual. I find that automatic is the best mode to be in for general browsing however there only appears to be two levels of zoom when in it, so if you want to be able to have more control over your zoom options I suggest you use the manual mode.

More settings although not enough

You can set if you want, the view bar to hide automatically, never or on the control of a button. Button mode would probably be the best in my opinion.

Set which search engine you would like to use. The search function is really neat! You just click the button enter your search terms and it loads up the search results page (Google or Yahoo).
Delete cookies, no explanation needed.
Finally you can mess with your proxy settings.

Interface

Basically the main things you need are covered but more advanced features are lacking. Still it’s only for browsing on the Wii so you don’t really need to have all the things a fully functioned web browser has.

The favourites menu is very nice, make sure you add The1Qwerty in there :-P

Netvibes even works (well kind of you can’t read the posts properly, but the headlines are fine).

Netvibes on Wii browser

I did find that a few things are lacking from the Internet channel such as:

  • More advanced features
  • Tabbed browsing
  • A RSS reader would of been really nice

Overall the final product is very impressive, visually appealing and all that is really required in a web browser for the Nintendo Wii. Plus it is free to download for a limited amount of time, (grab it whilst you can) so you cannot really complain about it.

Guitar Hero 3 Heading For Wii

Tuesday, April 10th, 2007

Thats right, those of you GH fans out there, I only saw the game in RL for the first time today :-| shocking I know.

Anyway according to the RedOctane support center:

Guitar Hero 3 for the Playstation 2, PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii are currently scheduled for release in the United States in Fall of 2007.

Pretty awesome, right it does look like quite a good game, with a good selection of music from what I saw today anyway.

Want To Edit Your Mii On Your PC?

Sunday, April 8th, 2007

my_mii_manager_thrii.jpg

I don’t! I think that this product would be rather useless.

Our powerful Mii Manager software lets you edit your Mii on your PC. Its a doddle to use. Just import your Mii into the editor, then edit it until your hearts content. You can even share your Mii with Wii gamers from all over the world over the internet!

  • What can you edit on your PC that you can’t on your Wii?
  • Are you able to make changes to you Mii on the PC, and then convert it back for use on your Wii?
  • What if you have changed your Mii in ways that can’t be done on the Wii?

These are just a few of the questions I have.

Anybody else see much of a use for this, or have any questions about it?

Wii Gun On The Way

Friday, April 6th, 2007

zapper-prototype-wii3.jpg
The Wii blaster which is a gun for the Wii, will soon be arriving. Gamestop have it set to come out on the first of May priced at $19.99 (I presume US price).

I think the Wii is in need of a piece of equipment that lets you play FPS games in the manner that you would if you were shooting a real gun. We may as well take advantage of the controls the Wii has.

I got my brother to make a Lego Wii gun a few weeks back I should take some pics of it and post later. Thats if anyone is interested.

The picture of the ‘Wii Zapper” above is from Joystiq when they were at E3, at the time of this the Wii Zapper was still a work in progress, so who knows how far it has gotten along now.

Wii Gym Idea

Monday, April 2nd, 2007

I just had an amazing idea, I was playing some Wii boxing when the thought occurred to me that someone should setup a Wii gym. Or just as a joke in a gym setup a Wii and let people have a few rounds of boxing against the AI or multiplay against other gym junkies.

A Wii setup with boxing in a gym would make a rather humorous photo opportunity. Especially if setup next to some boxing bags.

New Information: Wii Opera Browser

Tuesday, March 27th, 2007

A conversation between Wii developers about the final version of the internet channel is up on the net.

New features for the final version of the internet channel include:

  • A search button that can be accessed from the start page and from the tool bar.
  • Multiple cursors can be shown up on the screen however only the person with cursor number 1 can control what is viewed.
  • Zoom, scroll and response speed have all been varied from the trial version.
  • Two types of zoom control, first is the same as what was in the trial version, the new addition lets you zoom in at set levels.
  • Outline font will be used (whatever that is) in the full version which means that the words will never be blurry no matter how far you zoom in.
  • Width of pages set at 800 pixels for all screen setups regardless of widescreen.
  • New scroll feature where you press B and depending on how far you are from the sides of the screen depends on how much you scroll. You can also scroll with the D-pad.
  • Responsiveness of the channel has been increased so it loads faster and you are able to use the favorites section almost instantly.
  • Ability to hide the tool bar has been added for the final version.
  • .www ,.com are displayed on the URL input screen to make life easier.
