Ctube MSN, IRC, Google Talk For Wii

Saturday, March 17th, 2007

Communication Tube, is a free web based application that lets you communicate from a variety of instant messaging protocols in a single web-based application. Thats great right for when your out at a net cafe. But the real cool thing is they say that it works in the Opera Browser on the Wii.

I have not tested it yet though, so I cannot confirm if it works.

*Note* A friend pointed out that it does not appear to be https, so I do not know how SECURE it is. Below is a statement from Communication Tube on their site.

Can someone who has tested it with a Wii please verify that it works in a comment below.

  • In the future youll be able to get notification inside of WordPress about plugins you use that have updates.

For developers, you now have:

Review of James Gill’s Blog

Friday, March 16th, 2007

James Gill, sent the call out for his readers to review his blog, and that is exactly what I am doing here.

First of all who is James Gill? Well he is a student in the UK who will soon be going to college and has fantastic art skills, thus he has a strong interest in web and graphic design. He only recently (like me) wound up in the wonderful world that is blogging, and so far he is really making a mark.
JamesGill.me.uk has been around for about month now, and he has already managed to captivate quite a large audience far bigger than mine considering that I have been around for a few months longer. So he is doing exceptionally well.

The theme that he is using for his blog is rather ‘dirty’, (pun intended) No I am just joking his theme is very unique and thats part of what makes him stand out from the crowd of all the other blogs in the vast blogosphere.

He has all the typical stuff that you would expect to find on a blog, funny videos and the like. James however also has a more formal side to his blog where he discusses the things that he is learning about blogging specifically exploring all of the different lanes for monetizing you blog, which is well worth taking a look through. I will list a few of the posts that I found to be interesting on his blog later on.

James, does his blogging very simply by that I mean he does not really have very big blog posts, (This post would be far longer than most of his posts) which is a good thing as it is short and straight to the point. However when he is giving a write up about ad networks I would personally give a bit more a of a description about them, rather than just the typical ‘New Ad-Network, I am going to be trying network blah blah blah’ I would be writing up what is unique, what separates xyz network from the others if you get my drift. Unless of course thats why he has quite a large blog, because not everyone wants to hear the ins and outs of every thing. I however do :) . (Take my big Tremulous review for example.) Take this latest post, its a new ad network he has found could use some expanding.

Well I think that I have rambled on far enough in this review of James blog I hope you like it. But quickly here are a few posts he has made that I found to be rather cool/interesting/informal.

Gaming Wiki

Thursday, March 15th, 2007

From the founders of wikipedia comes a gaming wiki, gaming.wikia.com is a wiki dedicated to gaming. Pretty much all there is to it, your normal wiki but having a specific target of gaming, so anyone can write up an article about one of their favourite games or, contribute to the many articles that are there/spawning soon. Will this be in direct competition with Strategy wiki? Time will tell and there certainly is plenty of room for gaming wiki’s, I think that this will only be the beginning.

The Commenting Snow Ball Effect

Tuesday, March 13th, 2007

Commentating on other peoples blog is like a snowball, the more comments you make the more you practice your writing, and you generate ideas for your own posts (This post came to me whilst commenting on another blog). But just as important as generating ideas and practicing your English skills you get your blog out to the public, out to your best audience fellow bloggers.

You can gain some ‘linkage’ from commentating on fellow bloggers blogs by:

  • Getting into their top commentators list
  • The owner of that site noticing your blog and finding an interesting article and linking back to you
  • Other bloggers noticing your blog and finding interesting articles that are worth linking to
  • Other bloggers linking to you not only gives you more links and potential traffic (duh) but if the post the blogger has written is good and is scrapped with a link to you in it you get the extra link as well

As you can see the list could be endless and one of the best ways of generating a vibe for your blog and attracting new readers is getting your blog out there in the blogosphere, and leaving comments is just one of the many great ways of doing this.

To other people this shows them that you are interested in their blog, they often check out the commentators site (I usually always do) other commentators notice you, the snowball starts. :)

Top Commentator Problems [Update - 1]

Monday, March 12th, 2007

I have been experiencing some problems with setting top commentators to reset weekly. For the time being it is back to monthly until I can sort out his problem.

Anyone have any suggestions/know how to set it so weekly resets work, as it does not appear to be working properly at the moment.

[Update] I have installed the latest version of Top Commentators v1.03 and have set it so that comments reset every 7 days, hopefully this will in effect work how I want it to. I will keep you posted.

Top Commentators To Reset Every Week

Sunday, March 11th, 2007

I am going to trial resetting the top commentators list every week. So if you want the free link back your going to have to comment more often :)

Also starting from now the top commentator at the end of the week will be featured in a “Blogosphere week in review” post that will take place every week. With the first one being posted at the end of this week (commencing 12 of March). What will you find in the Blogosphere week in review? Just the general happenings and cool things I found on other blogs throughout the week. The top commentator will get a nice paragraph with a few links within the week in review as a little incentive to leave comments here.

The Top Commentator for the week ending 11 March 2007 was:

Chris

The first batch of links are ready to go and thanks very much to those who have participated so far:

If you are looking to get some link backs to your site then the mybloglog programme is exactly what you are looking for.

Mii Buttons Gone??

Wednesday, March 7th, 2007

miilogo2copy.jpg

Has the Mii Buttons site dissapeared? I was looking over some of my older posts (January) and checked out the Mii Buttons site to see what was going down, and It appears that not much since the site has gone offline, and has just been replaced as a page of ads.

Rather dissapointing when you think about it as the Mii Buttons idea was quite a good well thought up idea, oh well I guess that all good things must come to and end.
Did anyone ever actually get their hands on their very own Mii Button?

Building A Community For The1Qwerty [Update 1]

Tuesday, March 6th, 2007

I am going to start and try to grow the community of my blog The1Qwerty and I have several methods in mind, that I will roll out over the comming months and weeks.

Just the other night I setup MyBlogLog so if you wish to join The1Qwerty community you can do so.

The first little thing I have in mind for helping to create a community for The1Qwerty, is to give a free linkback via a post on my blog to those people that sign up to The1Qwerty community at MyBloglog.

To be eligible for the free link back you must have joined The1Qwerty community by Friday the 9th of March 5PM (+9 UTC) the end of March 2007 and have left a comment below with the address to your site AND the title you wish to go with the link. Its that simple.
