11 New Stargate Worlds Screenshots

Thursday, November 22nd, 2007

11 New screenshots have been added to the Stargate Worlds, gallery. This game is certainly shapping up to be a great MMO, the screenshots so far look amazing. The question is though how will it compete against the big rollers of the MMORPG genre? (That of course being WoW)

Whilst I am at it I will give you a few links for a quick recap of what progress has been made on Stargate Worlds since my blogging break.

Now one of the most ground breaking news items is that we have a release date for Stargate Worlds, the fourth quarter of 2008. So only a year to wait. You can read more about this over at mmosite.

Some more great information about the game also recently surfaced over at mmosite.

MMORPG.com also had a recent interview with several of the key developers of the upcoming title. Read about it here.

What’s Your Game Fool?

Wednesday, November 21st, 2007

Mr. T and William Shatner are the stars of a new Blizzard advertisment campaign, (hmm they need to advertise with the number of subscribers they have, now well over nine million).

Now WoW has never really interested me, the only MMO that has really caught my eye is Stargate Worlds (that’s only because I’m a Stargate fan). Never theless these ad’s are interesting and some what humerous.

You can check them out here.

Lord Of The Rings Online: Shadows Of Angmar Free Till April 24

Saturday, April 7th, 2007

lotro-screen.jpg

The MMORPG based off The of The Rings story, will be free to play until April the 24th. After that you will have to (like most MMORPG’s) pay to play.

However, you will not be able to level up beyond level 15 during the world tour (time you can play for free). But its something for nothing so you can’t really complain.

If you don’t know what LORTO is all about then I suggest you read Internet Gamers.org’s post on their time with the game.

I think it’s quite a good marketing strategy letting you play for free for a few weeks. I guess that their idea behind it is that, if you start playing the game then like most MMORPGS you will get hooked and thus want to continue playing the game, therefore signing up and paying for it.

Stargate Worlds GDC

Wednesday, March 14th, 2007

A large amount of new information for Stargate Worlds is warping out due to the recent GDC, and right now all the interviews are coming online.

I have sumarised the main new points here:

  • Game play taking place between season 3 through to season 8
  • Story line and content is being closely developed with Brad Wright and Robert Cooper
  • Time shifting game mechanics
  • Get 10 hours worth of game play out of each of the worlds in Stargate Worlds
  • Anywhere between 35 to 58 worlds will be explorable in game
  • Game devs have access to props from the Stargate TV series
  • Content added both to the show and the game
  • PVP system
  • Possibility of actors from the series being in the game?
  • Combat optimised for squad based tactics
  • Naquadah is the currency that will be used in SGW

Some great new screen shots have also emerged from the GDC which can be found at the sites listed below.

Stargate Worlds At GDC

Saturday, March 10th, 2007

MMORPG.com managed to catch up with Joe Ybarra and Kevin Balentine of CME productions at the recent Game Developers Conference. The result some ground breaking new news about Stargate Worlds. The dev team are expecting to have the first playable version by the end of the month, so hopefully the full version will be out later this year.

Summing up the article:

  • Ability to choose between two factions good and bad.
  • Good consists of:
    • Human
    • Asgard
    • Free Jaffa
  • Bad consists of:
    • Humans that have gone bad
    • Goa’uld
    • Jaffa
  • 3 Points that CME are sticking to with the production of SGW:
    • Modern combat
    • Exploration
    • Replay value
  • Stargate-Atlantis expansion planned
  • Dev team hoping to make the game take 200 hrs to get to maximum level (does not seem very long to me)
  • Constantly be adding new content via updates so, areas that you might of explored once will be different, if you choose to go back

…modern combat, exploration, and re-playability. Joe’s hope for combat is dynamic. There will be weapons going off everywhere, players will have the option to duck and hide for cover. There is everything in the game from rifles, staff weapons, hand grenades, even the Asgardian weapons.

Well thats pretty much all of it, but I am sure ive missed something read the full article over at MMORPG.com

Lego MMO In The Works

Tuesday, March 6th, 2007

According to Kotaku we can expect to see a Lego MMO comming out in the future as NetDevil have been signed up to create a MMO with Lego.

I think that this is fantastic, how about a constructive MMO thats not about killing Orcs or casting spells on wild beasts.
Would you be able to build your own house out of Lego pieces that you have acquired? Do you run around as a Lego man or view the game from an RTS style and just build huge structures for other people to stare at?

Hopefully more news will be coming out in the near future, and I am sure that many of these question and more that I am sure you have, will be answered.
