Wii Sports Power Throws Challenge Achieved!

Wednesday, February 14th, 2007

Well looks like I was to slow in even having a descent attempt at the Wii Sports Power Throws Challenge. Someone has already nailed the Power Throws game and with video proof. A Joystiq reader with the name of Moco has now achieved this feat WITH VIDEO PROOF quite an amazing thing indeed. His Joystiq shirt is already on the way. Not only has he achieved this feat first but he has documented it all here so you can follow his steps through and perhaps see if you can do it without the beers. :)
Here is the video proof of this amazing feat and congrats to Moco for this oustanding job.

Top 100 Games of 2006

genres.jpg

Next Generation have compiled a highly detailed list of the top 100 games sold during 2006. The list informs you which platform the game came out on, number sold in 2006 for North America, Revenue for 2006 for North America, release date, genre and publishers along with a review quote about the game. Creating one very comprehensive list.

Along with the top genres in which sports games surprisingly topped the list, EA topped the publishers list which comes as no surprise since they publish a large array of top notch games.

You can check out the full list here , the other assorted charts, and of course see which game made it to number one (I’m not gonna spoil it for you, but it surprised me :))

Wii Messenger Idea

Sunday, February 11th, 2007

After finding WiiAim.com which is a web application AIM for the Wii in development that will run within the Opera web browser I thought why doesn’t someone come up with a full Wii messenger that works with MSN, AIM and the other various messaging protocols. It could even perhaps have a proper Channel within the Wii for it. Why not take it one step further and have instant messaging within the Wii to other Wii friends rather than having to send a message to them each time.A Wii messenger could further expand the online capabilites of the Wii, enabling friends and family to communicate easily to one another via the Wii. The only down side is that you would have to use the Wii remote to type with the on screen keyboard, which could be very frustrating and tireing when used for extended periods of time. This opens up another idea of a Wiiboard, a Wii keyboard that communicates to the Wii via bluetooth.

Below are some mock up images of Talk2Mii/MessageMii (or another Wii Mii name) my idea for a Wii messenger.

Talk2Mii/MessageMii would use a interface rather like the current Memo one but with a few more lines exposed to what is currently shown and it constantly scrolling live to keep up with the conversation. The interface instead of having a normal Display Picture that most of the instant messaging protocols have would simple be a pic of your Mii that people can use to identify you with, along with being able to pick a custom screen name as is usual with instant messaging programmes.

Yes we can all have a laugh at my skills :P.

Wii Sports Power Throws Challenge

Saturday, February 10th, 2007

powerthrows10.jpg

What is Power Throws you may ask? Well we all know of normal Wii Sports Bowling, and that getting a perfect score of striking every frame may be a fair bit of a challenge. Well how about getting a perfect score in Power Throws where you have to strike every frame to get the highest score. I know what your thinking whats the difference? well the difference between a normal bowling game and a Power Throws game is that every frame gets more pins added starting with 10 pins and working right up to 91 pins. Now you get one point for every pin you knock down but if you manage to strike the frame then you will get double score, so if you manage to strike the last frame you get a score of 91×2=182. The largest possible score is 890.

The challenge set at the moment is for someone to get the all mighty 890 score with video proof and the winner is up for a Joystiq t-shirt as well as eternal Internet glory for being the first person to pull this off with video proof. (Note cheaters need not apply)

This is something that I simply cannot walk past so I am going to give my best shot at getting the max score, and claiming the holy grail of Wii sports.

nintendo_wii_1.jpg

Still trying to track down a Wii in Australia? Well to make life a litte bit easier how about checking out consolehunt.com. The page on console hunt live updates every 30 seconds so there is no need to have to refresh the page over and over again to see if one comes available. Plus once the PS3 is launched I believe that they will be having the same live updates that are used for the Wii for the PS3 as well.

Well just when we would of thought we had seen it all for Wii sports extra’addons’ another new item is on the market, Wii sports boxing gloves to get the most realism in the Wii sports boxing ring. Slap your Wii remote and nunchuck into the pockets stick on the gloves and your sure to have the best Wii sports boxing match ever. The Wii sports Boxing gloves will ‘Enhance the joy of playing’ are ‘easy to use’ and are of a high quality.

Perhaps they will even make playing Wii sports boxing safer since you wont have to worry about throwing your Wii remote into the TV, and may also protect yourself and those around you whilst playing.

Strategy Wiki

Sunday, February 4th, 2007

Strategy Wiki is exactly that, a Wiki for gaming strategies and walk throughs of many popular games. They have just recently reached the amazing milestone of 100 complete guides, and the quality appears to be top notch.

Guides range from Super Mario Bros, Pac-Man, Zelda, Donkey Kong, right through to Medal of Honour, Half-life and many other current games out at the moment, with many new ones coming out and others constantly being updated.

Strategy Wiki was formed back in December 2005 and just had their first year birthday. Their goal was to create and improve upon current strategy guides, and have them accessible to the masses via the Internet. Licensed under the GNU free documents license.

Due to Strategy Wiki being a wiki many editors can all work together on the one guide to produce a final high quality guide produced by people from all walks of life. There can only be one guide per game eliminating multiple guides per games that other walk through sites have trouble with. This means that everyone works on the one guide to create one high quality guide rather than several mediocre ones.

Look here for an example of a fantastic guide on The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.
